“When I was younger, I was blessed with a fast metabolism, so I never had to work out keep in shape, Now I feel that it worked against me because I could have felt this great back then. I’ve never felt as good as I do today.”

“I just think…” she breaks off, choosing her words carefully. “If we go back to the origin of marriage, it was very unromantic. It was about land, basically. It was about ownership. So I think it’s a kind of unromantic idea. When I look around and see the emphasis people put on getting married and weddings, I think, wait a second, what does this really mean?

The divorce rate is astronomical. I’m a person who appreciates a private union and a union that doesn’t need a piece of paper. I think marriage is more societal than anything else, honestly. It’s not that I’m against it; it’s just that, for me, it seems a little old-fashioned.”

“But I’m completely pro-union,” she quickly adds. “I think the most beautiful thing in the world is to have your soulmate and to have that spiritual connection, and to honour that. In truth, you can’t be any more romantic than me. I’m crazy for romance. I like the random notes, the lipstick kisses on the mirror, the flower petals in the underwear drawer.”

Sam has a really great kind of old school quality about him. He’s got this kind of rough exterior, this sexy rugged exterior, yet he’s so emotionally available and just really sexy. Did I say that already? (laughs) I find him extremely sexy and a lot of that has to do with his talent. I respond to his dedication to the craft. He’s a trained actor who really gets the material and just kind of embraces that process. He likes to rehearse, I love to rehearse. My kind of actor for sure.

“In the opening scene I might have a little powder on my face and that was it.”

“That may not sound like a big deal, but these are things that really help create a sexuality in my characters. My hair, which as you can see today is naturally really big, we straightened it, tucked it behind and took away all the sex.”

“It’s just about using my instrument in a new way as much as I can, I love my craft. I still go to acting class. So, when I get to play and have fun with my craft, that’s what’s exciting for me. And I love to show my diversity. Those four films you mentioned, there’s some major diversity there, and that’s not an accident. The Spirit was just fun. The Other Guys, I got to be the straight man, really, in a comedy. Bad Lieutenant was a drama and Last Night was a different kind of drama.”

And that fitness is not on her list of fun things to do makes the actress a relatable spokesperson for Reebok EasyTone, the athletic-wear brand’s line of toning apparel and shoes.

“What I like about EasyTone is that they help me fit more exercise in when I’m running around,” Mendes explains in a recent interview with Metro.

“Easy” may be part of the Reebok toning technology name, but don’t make the mistake of thinking this is clothing that works hard FOR you. In fact, it’s apparel that makes YOU work harder. Although the shoe looks like a regular sneaker, the EasyTone shoe sole features an air chamber that compresses as it hits pavement. It simulates the balance ball movement, creating an imbalance that forces the wearer to work a little harder as she walks.

“I love the idea of killing two birds with one stone. You’re already going to be out there running errands, running around with your kids or your dog,” notes Mendes, who says she wears hers to walk and hike. “So why not use a shoe that helps you out and tones you up a bit while you’re doing it?”

The clothing features high-tech tension fabric bands at the shoulders, between the shoulder blades, at the torso, and, in the pants, at the hamstrings, to create muscle resistance as the wearer walks or runs.

“The thing I love about the clothes is that they support everything, give you a nice shape, and remind you to maintain your posture,” says Mendes.

She talk with Live With Regis and Kelly about her Belgian Malinois dog Hugo lying next to a chair he had just chewed up. “He’s like the Russell Crowe of dogs, He’s always destroying stuff, he’s like grrrrrrr”

“When I leave the house he gets very upset and he just destroys stuff” she added.

“We didn’t grow up with a lot of money so I would always tell my mom, ‘Mommy I am going to buy you a big house when I grow up, and a car’,” she said.

“And my sister said to me one day when I was 10, ‘How are you going to buy mom all these things? You are going to be a nun and nuns don’t get paid. I said, ‘What?’ and that was it, my convent dreams were over,” she added.

Mendes tells Hello magazine : ‘No, no, no. I don’t know if I want children, but the idea of marriage sounds very boring to me. I have to be honest. And no disrespect, because I think marriage is a beautiful institution.

‘I am extremely romantic but I think there is that little rebel inside me that is anti-establishment. It’s just one more fun thing I can rebel against.’

‘I love going to a wedding. I do this thing – I call it wedding dancing. I don’t know what happens to me but I just dance in a way that I’ve never danced before. I’m the best person to have at your wedding but I just don’t ever want to be the actual person getting married.’ she added
