Eva Mendes insists she is a girls’ girl, despite all the macho films she has appeared in.
The 36-year-old actress has played the sexy sidekick in action flicks such as 2 Fast 2 Furious and Ghost Rider, and in her latest film Bad Lieutenant plays a drug-addicted prostitute and girlfriend of crooked cop Nicolas Cage.
Eva admits: “I’m constantly a part of this boys’ club, and I’m not complaining, but if you knew me as a person, I’m such a girls’ girl.
“I’m not only a girlie girl, I’m a girls’ girl. And I love working with, collaborating with women and I have such a tight, tight circle of females in my personal life, friends that I’ve had since I was 12 years old, to my sisters and my mother.
“I’m used to being in the boys’ club, but I always prefer having women around.”
In 2008 Eva appeared alongside Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Debra Messing and Jada Pinkett Smith in comedy The Women.
She said: “Somebody questioned me on why I did a small part in The Women and I said because all I work with is men! So finally I get a chance to work with women for a change, I jumped at the chance.”
She also appears in relationship drama Last Night, co-starring Keira Knightly, Avatar’s Sam Worthington and The Beach’s Guillaume Canet, out later this year. Eva said: “I was really excited to work with Keira.
“It is such an amazing film. Written and directed by a woman and it’s just an amazing little film that’s completely thought-provoking.”
